Wander through 12 acres of glorious gardens and magnificent parkland in the undiscovered lake region of North Westmeath. Tullynally has been in the Pakenham family (later Earls of Longford) since 1650, and three generations still live here as their family home.

The layout of the gardens dates mainly from the early 1800s, but the present owners, Thomas and Valerie Pakenham, have added many new features. Take time to sit and enjoy the stunning view from the Castle Terraces, then explore the walled Flower Garden with its Weeping Pillar, family of llamas and the stone “Nandi" (sacred Indian bulls). Discover the Gothick Grotto with fantastic carvings by a local artist. Or follow the Forest Walk to relax in the serenity of the Chinese Glade, with its Pagoda and rare plants from Yunnan. Then follow the looped Walk on to the Lower Lake with its pair of swans, Magnolia Grove and Viewing Mound.

Everywhere you will find superb trees and views – and pretty ornamental summer houses to rest in. For tree enthusiasts, there is a special Tree Trail to follow.

Why not end your visit with delicious home baked goods in the Courtyard Tearooms, where the magnificent family coach is also on display
